Gretchen Baker has held her role at Carnegie Museum of Natural History (CMNH) since 2021 and is the museum’s first female director. She was previously the Managing Director for Museum Experience at the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art in Los Angeles and Vice President of Exhibitions for the Natural History Museums of Los Angeles County (NHMLAC).
Baker also worked in exhibition curation with the Field Museum in Chicago and loves connecting visitors to the stories of our natural world through the first-hand evidence—from dinosaur bones to stone tablets and plant specimens. At the Field Museum, she pursued ethnobotanical research in the Ecuadorian Amazon and contributed to the early groundbreaking work of the museum’s environmental and conservation programs.
