Collection Manager, Birds
Biography
Serina Brady is the collection manager for the Section of Birds at Carnegie Museum of Natural History. She received her MSc in biology and MSc in museum studies from the University of New Mexico in 2019. Her research interests utilize natural history collections to study avian systematics and diversification. She strives to create holistic specimen vouchers by taking as much data (tissue, photographs, field notes, etc.) from the specimen and incorporating these into its digital record. Serina is a member of the Society for the Preservation of Natural History Collections (SPNHC) and is an advocate for collections-based research, preservation, and care.
After receiving her BSc at Cornell University, Serina explored a path in field ecology working for various NGOs, universities, and government agencies. This allowed her to travel the world and immerse herself in a wide variety of avifauna. She has conducted fieldwork in Hawaii, Alaska, Australia, Ecuador (Galápagos Islands), Northern Mariana Islands, and Panama. Her graduate work took place in the lab and in the field, with fieldwork occurring in the Solomon Islands and Australia.
