  1. Material 
    The material of these shoes, including the soles, are made of locally available goatskin. These shoes got a lot of use, and you can see how worn the soles are. 
  2. Decorative embroidery 
    You can identify these as traditional Siwan bridal shoes partly through the pattern of small triangles on top. 
  3. Mother of pearl buttons 
    The buttons are made of precious sadaf (mother-of-pearl).

Accession # 37534-25a-b   

These bright shoes must have caught Cassandra Vivian’s eye, because she purchased them in Mersa Matruh, just north of Siwa on the Mediterranean coast. They were worn by a Siwan bride throughout her wedding festivities.
